desperately need some advice following the death of my father

Hi everyone - I am looking for some advice following the sudden death of my father last year. Despite him being in an on/off relationship for many years, when he died I was his next of kin and was left with the responsibility of organising everything, including paying for the funeral. This has left me in some debt that I am now trying to find a way to sort out. My father had no savings, or pensions and left no estate at all, and I have had to borrow money to cover everything, which has put me under a lot of pressure. My father had previously held bank accounts and credit cards and had a mortgage and I wondered if it is possible for my to complete a PPI claim on his behalf (as he had started to do with one of his accounts just before he died) even though he is deceased? Does anyone know if that is possible please? Unfortunately his 'partner' destroyed all of his personal paperwork, so I have no way to trace account numbers etc., I have tried to do a data subject access request with his old bank but that was declined because he it only applies to living people. Can anyone give me any advice on what I can do in this situation, as I am now struggling financially because of the death expenses, whilst trying to grieve for my dad and I am totally alone in having to do all of this. Any help or advice would be very gratefully received. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

As many will no doubt point out, you didn't have to pay for the funeral - the local authority will arrange one if there is no one willing or able to do it. But that is now gone and the debt exists.
To make an application or claim for anything owing it would have to be in the name of your father's estate, so you would have to apply for administration of your father's affairs ( or for probate if he left a will).
Any payout, if successful, would then be split according to his will or the laws of intestacy.0
