HSBC - New Sort Codes and Account Numbers

Many others here affected by HSBC's decision to change all the sort codes and account number for retail customers?
They told me it would come into affect on 15th July but, as of today, I haven't had anything from them regarding the new sort code, account number or new debit cards. If nothing by the end of the week I'll contact them.

Presumably, they are just changing sort codes that overlap.

Sort codes and account numbers normally have a set formula.

Therefore, there is no actual need to change account numbers as they can just assign a new sort code that 'fits' the account numbers.

    I'm not sure I understand.
HSBC are changing both sort codes and account numbers for retail customers. Well that's what they told me anyway.

It sounds from the FAQ at https://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/ringfencedbank that they're only planning to issue new numbers after they've gone live:
Why can't you provide me with my new sort code and account number before the change happens?

We are unable to provide you with your new sort code and account number ahead of the 'live date' because they will not be recognised in the banking system until this date, using them ahead of this will create potential confusion.! We will write to you and provide your new account details as soon as they go 'live'.

I can't believe this is the first I hear about this change! I swear I have not had any notification from HSBC about it. Thanks OP for starting this thread.

Reading their document it would seem that only SOME account codes are changing and if you haven't received anything your account won't change. Nothing heard here, and no messages on online banking when I logged in yesterday.

I havent heard anything either, and no mention to me when I called HSBC, to send me a new cheque book, the only difference was that my holding bank has changed, I can only assume that my old branch has been closed as part of the historical closures over the industry, again no mention of this change to me. Not that its an issue as account was opened when I was 12 and living with my parents, so no plans to visit the area again.

The hilarious bit is that they've used stock photos of an ATM and a debit card in this PDF, but it's neither an HSBC ATM nor an HSBC debit card...
