Latest EDF tariff cheaper than EDF collective for high gas usage

The new EDF Online Saver Aug18 works out cheaper for me than the EDF Simply Fixed Aug 18 collective by £72 per year. The electric is a bit more but the lower gas unit price (with higher standing charge) make the gas quite a bit cheaper for high gas users.

MSE doesn't show any cashback for the EDF Online Saver Aug18 but new EDF customers can get £50 via TopCashback for a duel fuel switch (£20 for single fuel).

I'm in the process of switching my gas supply away from EDF to the SSE collective which worked out slightly cheaper than the EDF collective one. This new EDF Online Saver Aug18 is slightly cheaper than the new SSE one for our high gas use but as we will get £17 cashback on the SSE switch and would not qualify for the £20 for an EDF switch then they work out about the same.

The electric is staying with Iresa (who are now taking on more customers again but don't seem to appear on the comparison sites). The SSE collective and both EDF tariffs would be about £50 more.

Like last year, it has again worked out cheapest to go with separate suppliers. None of the comparison sites seem to highlight this and you have to look at the gas and electric charges individually to find this out but even then it's not that simple...

The new EDF Online Saver Aug18 was not showing on the comparison sites for gas only so one would not be aware that it is the cheapest. On the EDF site itself if you look for unit rates the options are dual fuel or electricity only, there is no gas only. However, if you look at the tariff rates or request a quote then you can get these for gas only.

This comparison site issue for gas only tariffs now seems to have been fixed on the EnergyHelpline site but not yet on the MSE Cheap Energy Club one.

Clive, thanks for the info on new EDF tariff. It was looking like I was going to have to switch from EDF as their available tariffs were much more expensive than I could get anywhere else when I checked last week. The Online Saver Aug18 is actually cheaper than the best deal I could find elsewhere, so I've signed up to them from 1st August. The EDF one must have just come out as it wasn't on any comparison site, or on My account on EDF website, when I checked at the weekend. It's about a 4% saving against Bulb energy for me, and no messing with a switch. Still having to pay about 16% more for the next 13 months, but better than spending 20% more. I'm not a high gas user either.

You got my hopes up there with a cheap EDF gas tariff, checked and Aug 18 is £80 dearer than my Jun 18 fix :( The EHL collective SSE fix is cheaper than my current fix but as it has an exit fee not enough to swing it.

Molerat, I was fairly shocked at the unit prices at EDF when I looked before. I'm on their Price promise July 2017 deal, and the cheapest tariff they had was with a 50% unit price increase on dual fuel. The latest one is still an increase, but overall I'll be saving about £40 compared to going elsewhere. This is the first time I've had an EDF tariff with an exit fee as well - sounds to me like they've boosted their customer base enough to hope nobody notices their new lack of competiveness. Until this week, they didn't appear anywhere in the top 30 on any comparison site I'd used. Pity really, cos I like the web site, android app, and customer service has been good,
