Late husbands pension

I'm wondering if anyone can help me .My husband died last month aged 63, I am 54 and only working part time, we still have the mortgage for ten years yet.
I'm wondering what happens to my husbands pension, is there any chance I will get a top up for my pension from it?
He had a small pension from an old job, but as he wasn't pension age , I will just get £180.00 a year whereas if he'd been 65 I would of got £3000. A year! !
I suppose it's too much to expect to get anything from his state pension but if anyone has any experience of this I'd be grateful.

Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.

Please accept my sincere condolences 'wort'. My husband died September last year, so I truly understand how you are feeling.
I am older than you, but my state pension was increased (I didn't get a full state pension in my own right) using my husband's contribution record and in fact I now get more than my husband's state pension.
Have you looked into whether your husband was entitled to a death in service benefit?
You say you still have a mortgage - are you sure you haven't got death benefit included in your mortgage to cover this?
Try going over to the Over 50s Board and clicking on Self help thread. I am a widow. Coping, getting on with it - and I am sure someone will be able to help.0 -

It appears that you came under the old scheme but the OP will receive her SP under new rules as would her spouse have done had he lived.
She should obtain a new state pension statement https://www.gov.uk/check-state-pension
and read http://www.ageuk.org.uk/Documents/EN-GB/Factsheets/FS19_State_Pension_fcs.pdf?dtrk=true0 -

Under the old system this was the case, but under the new state pensions, this no longer happens. But as she is working she will continue to get NICs to increase her SP.
OP, you should also inherit part of your husbands S2P, serps/state second pension is he ahd any.
Do get a state pension forecast.
Do inform DWP of hsi death and register for the new bereavement allowance.
RE mtg, most people have life assurance tied to their mtg, did your husband?Have you looked into whether your husband was entitled to a death in service benefit?
yes, check into this.
Check with your employer, when you are not reeling from the shock of this, if you c an take on more hours if needed.
Did your husband have savings like isas?
Investments?0 -
Thank you all, I know we didn't have anything to pay the mortgage off , the death in service wouldn't apply as he was self employed. I have applied for bereavement benefit, and i will look at those threads thanks. I don't think we qualify for the additional pension because of the dates anything after April 2016,
IF you reached State Pension age on or after 6 April 2016
You can’t inherit your spouse or civil partner’s Additional State Pension if either:
your spouse or civil partner died on or after 6 April 2016 and reached (or would have reached) State Pension age on or after 6 April 2016.
So in effect all his contributions are kept by the state.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
Have you obtained a new state pension statement?
Check your situation with DWP.
And from Age Concern factsheet:
8.2 Inheriting a protected payment
You can inherit half of a partner’s protected payment once you start
claiming your own State Pension if your marriage or civil partnership
began before 6 April 2016 and both the following apply:
they reached, or would have reached, State Pension age on or after 6
April 2016
they died on or after 6 April 2016.
