Enough's enough, I want air con!

The problem with that and the water vapour coolers is they bump up the humidity which is worse than the heat, the portable a/c units are very noisy like having a vacuum cleaner running constantly and unless you have a very short exhaust pipe it heats up like a radiator.
Proper "split" a/c is very quiet and connects through a couple of small pipes through the wall, but you need separate power connection to the outside unit cost about £1500 for one room.0 -
Well thanks for all the tips.
I nearly purchased one.
But didn't.
Not good at making decisions, lol. But one thing's for sure, all the usual things do not work, this flat gets too hot.
I'll have another think about it tomorrow.0 -
I know how you feel. I have the same problem in my flat too ... I've been promising myself for years to do something about but could never afford any of the 'proper' air-cons. I ended up this year buying a smaller portable unit that doubles as a heater too.
If you hop over to Amazon and search for 'Signature S40004N 4-in-1 Air Cooler and Heater' ... that's the one! ... I highly recommend trying it out!
Obviously it's not going to be as good as the 'real thing' but it does do a pretty good job all things considered, my sister (who lives on a boat) was so impressed she wanted one too, it's not arrived yet though.
Of course if you don't get on with it you can always take advantage of Amazon's returns policy ...0 -

Oh fair enough, I hadn't looked into the depths of it.
We had room air-con in the way you describe at our last office - a box on the outside of the wall and a couple of pipes through to the interior unit. Also did heating. I recall getting the quote and someone (who had apartments in Spain at the time, and might still have) commented on the kit being about £200 a room over there.0
