Cooking for one (Mark Two)

Breakfast this morning was an omelette - much better than the first one I made. .
That's good then. To be honest I think producing a really good omelette isn't that easy.
Did you know that HMRC have a 'dedicated' Royalties team
Mr Costcutter, I do see where you're coming from, but the joke wasn't at the expense of Andrew's feelings and hope you can see that nowxx
I seem to be eating for two at the moment. Baby was due on New Year's Eve, but had other ideas. With this pregnancy I've had a craving for apples and oranges. There have been times when I've actually woken hubby at night because he's heard me crunching a nice apple. There are days when eating a llb has been no problem

Good afternoon,
Offspring departed just after 7am so that me back in CFO land, much as it has been lovely having the kids home and I will miss them, certainly for the next few days anyway I'll be quite content to be "home alone":).
The weather is truly dreadful here, it hasn't stopped raining for 24 hours +, the bottom of my garden has flooded and I had to put my wellies on to retrieve the wheelie bin:(.
I didn't head back to bed after they left so a snooze is definitely on the cards this afternoon as my energy levels are feeling pretty low.
I've started the post-festivities "use up" by making a pot of scotch broth. There is still a little lamb left so tonight I'll have that with the LO gravy, mash from the freezer and green beans.
After my nap my challenge is to sort out and clean the fridge and make a list of what needs using up/frozen and ditch anything that is past it's best veg wise so that should keep me out of mischief:).
I'm hoping to introduce some new recipes into my diet so plan to see what I have in and then check out my cookbooks/on line for some fresh ideas. My other aim for 2018 to also grocery shop only every 8 days rather than every week though I'm sure that won't work all of the time. I need some new challenges to get me through the January/February blues:D.0 -

Oh yes, I received a delightful letter from them lol. At the time I was employing an accountant (when I was working) and he apparently had some kind of wobble which meant my accounts were not prepared correctly - hence the letter. I now sort matters - couldn't take any more stress of that kind
As for your 'cravings' - sound quite healthy to me. My mother apparently had a craving for pork pies when she was expecting me. Strange because she had never eaten them before her pregnancy and certainly never ate them afterwards. Hope baby arrives soon
Lunch was poached fish, creamed spuds and veg. It was ok, but would have been better with some parsley sauce. The kitchen absolutely stinks of fish now and the cat is miffed because there wasn't enough for him0 -

Hope Baby comes soon. When I was expecting my second I couldn't get enough carrots. I used to a wee tub of them to bed to crunch during the night:o. I'm surprised my son wasn't orange when he was born though he does have red hair:rotfl::rotfl:(Thankfully a deep auburn rather than gingery:cool:)0 -
Not eaten anything .... currently sitting "worrying about the wind".
There's a live webcam with live wind data available up the road at the sailing club - and it's saying that I'm getting gusts of 73mph.
It's wild out there... stuff's moving about a LOT.0 -

I'm sure you will be ok - easy for me to say - but try not to worry:).0 -
Thank you Meg. Spending time with this lady was an absolute pleasure. She's what I would call a very good story teller. I was fascinated to hear about her mother who seems to have led a remarkable life.
Anyway, I will be returning as she needs quite a few diy jobs completingYou never know - there might be a few more meals you don't have to think about doing then.
Like I said - win win. What's not to like?0 -
Pastures - I try not to worry about the wind by now. Now that I'm living in an area where there's x number of people, y number of sheep and "The Wind" (as I've taken to calling it:cool:).
I spent the first winter here thinking "Agh! Climate change has suddenly taken a quantum leap worse" until I realised The Wind is normal-for-here.
I still don't like it one little bit - whether it's howling through my keyholes (something I've not been used to) or blowing me to smithereens on a pretty regular basis (ditto I'm not used to that). By now I shrug, then remind myself I've got a pair of binoculars by now if I feel the need to inspect my roof after a particularly bad bout of The Wind and hope to goodness getting windblown so often isnt going to redden my complexion permanently from "what it's supposed to be like".
I still hate The Wind with a passion and would be delighted if told there'd only ever be My Normal in that respect from here on in (ie wind being a rare and mild occurrence).
Guess you don't also get numerous comments from passers-by about "Nice day isnt it?" and I think they genuinely mean it:eek: - when it most definitely isnt a nice day at all. By now I "shrug shoulders" to that comment as well mentally (as I've realised they're used to different weather to me....). "Nice day" to me means blue skies/warm/calm. "Nice day" here means "It ain't blowin' a hooly or raining":(
EDIT; Quick cautionary thought - Pastures "my keyholes" means the keyholes on my house LOL. Thought I'd better get that one in quick - as yer nevair knows.....LOL.0 -
Wind is getting up here as well as PN, trees bending a bit now but if stuff survived the other night I reckon it will stand tonight's blow
Beginning to have second thoughts about dinner, could now be one of the gammon steaks, eggs & HM chipsSo pleased your HM yoghurt is going well. When I needed extra jars to do a batch for my DD as well as mine I looked on ebay and was shocked at the price. I looked in asda and found the smartprice mint sauce at 24p jars werethe exact size I needed. Bought 6 and emptied the sauce into a big coffee jar put the sauce jars through dishwasher , result free jars and enough mint sauce to probably last me out lol.
Thanks for the tip Meg, I was toying of going a bit posh and using some of the flip top type jars, £1 each, but 30+p each sound much better. Plus enough sauce forever
I think I may slip an empty yoghurt jar in my pocket just in case Lild have similar mint product when I'm in there tomorrow
Do you use a powdered starter still, or live bought yogurt? I have plenty of starter as part of my pressie, but will eventually need to use a new one as I believe the culture looses "ooomph" along the wayEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0
