Clean kitchen floor and play hunt the bits of glass.

I can sympathise with this as I knocked a full (large) coffee jar off the worktop a couple of months ago onto the tiled floor. Its surprising where all the little bits go.

I did mention it to someone who just said "be thankful it was not jam" took me a while to figure that out but the mess would of been worse.

The ironic thing was it was a large jar I purchased rather than a smaller one (the reason simply being the small one fits into a shelf gap, the larger jars do not) but they did not have any small ones I got a large, hence it not having to live in its usual 'safe' spot.

Foods: I did not really fancy anything earlier so settled for some sweetcorn (tiny tin as I had one to hand) and a small amount of peas in a bowl, quickly zapped. That will do for now.

    Recipe for frustrating hour:

Drop one glass on top of two others.

Clean kitchen floor and play hunt the bits of glass.

    Rinse rice for cooking.

Drop rice when tipping into saucepan.

Clean kitchen floor and play hunt the rice grains.

You both have my sympathies, I'm the Queen of dropping things. I'm still finding splatters from a mug of coffee I dropped weeks ago despite the fact every time I wipe one I'm sure I've got the last one:eek:. (At least the mug didn't break - might have been less mess if it hadn't bounced:rotfl::rotfl:)

Not being rude ... but are you an Aspie?

You're not, its perfectly fine. :)

Not that I am aware of. People have said on other forums in the past I tend to refer to myself but its just the way I type things out when I for example put "Andy is pleased to hear that" rather than "Pleased to hear that" :)

Having said that I started to read up on what are maybe considered 'Characteristics' so I'm actually a bit unsure now.

To be completely honest it would explain a couple of random things but I appear to lack the (how can I put it) 'more commonly seen' signs, at least from a quick cursory read. :)

    I'm one.

It was the fact you had a spot for a small jar and explained how/why you had a large jar; details that most people'd have not thought to include. The whole "analysis/reasoning" explanation of what you did and why :)

That makes sense, thank you for explaining. :)

The jar thing, I want to expand a little bit if I may. It could fit in the cupboard immediately above the shelf but I have always had the coffee / tea 'on the shelf' more a habit. The 'large jar' problem is one of height in that its a bit too tall to fit. :D

This does remind me I need to look over the next couple of weeks for a sensible solution for the 'new oven' as currently there is no space for it to live, not within reach of power anyway as the sockets are limited and one one side of the kitchen only.

I had to 'expand' a shelf to put the microwave on when the new fridge/freezer arrived a couple of months back as the microwave used to live on top of the old fridge/freezer as it was kind of a slightly smaller than normal one (I'm not tall either) so as daft as it sounded it was a perfect place for it, it had been there ten years anyway :D , unfortunately the newer fridge I'd need a step ladder to reach the top so it was time to move it anyway. :)

Sorry I'm waffling on about nonsensical things now.

Mine has to be moved to/from position every time I use it as I've no space for it. I move the microwave to one side and put it down where the microwave usually is, leaving zero workspace.

As the one I've got is so lightweight I don't mind doing it as there's no "struggle" weight-wise. It's just annoying I have to do it. When not in use it sits on top of a bread bin I've got, but isn't entirely "the best spot" as I did crush my finger once as the bread bin's only just big enough and I thought the feet were over it when I let go once and it fell and crushed my finger... one of those "I thought I was going to die" pain feelings when you suddenly get a digit crushed.

One problem in trying to choose the right one might be that you can't nail down specific dimensions of any oven - it annoys me that there seems a dearth of product detail when you're trying to buy things - and specific/precise measurements of items are often not given and it wouldn't be hard for them to include this vital information, with websites it's not as if they have to recall and reprint 100,000 paper brochures!

I did consider a 'double decker' effect but given they get a bit warm did not think it would be a great idea. :)

Dimensions: I hear you. :) I had to use Google to get all the correct sizes for the current microwave as it only listed its internal/external size and I wanted its 'capacity in litres' too, as it seemed most mini ovens specify that figure. I think the 9L would be far too small so I'm aiming for around 20L as that matches the microwave.

As previously mentioned due to 'interesting circumstances' (I do have a thread open about it the other day) there's no rush for the oven now so I'll be able to find something highly suitable, I view that as positive really in that it means I have a few weeks to be choosy and view a range of them :D

EDIT... The 'quick cheat' is to obtain a small table at a sensible height and put it on that as there is space with sockets at the end of the kitchen actually but its then behind the fridge area.

If its any help its not a fitted kitchen to be blunt it looks just like they would of done in the 50's I think but with newer 'units'

Yikes money I hope you've got a large one poured ;)

3 fair-size glasses of wine duly consumed later - and, right now, I'm on the it's given me the munchies - so having a couple of slices of toast with hummus.

Swopped notes with another friend who moved here at same sort of time I did - and we've compared our mutual most recent "war stories" about workmen here. Mine could have electrocuted me - hers could have water pouring into her house. Both of us in process of sorting our latest respective workmen problems..... Is racking my brain at intervals to think if either of us has yet had a trouble-free workman ....hasnt thought of one yet.....gimme time...and I might think of one...

Currently tossing up between "Oh just can I have £250,000 and I'm outa here" on the one hand (ie swopping houses again) on the one hand and waiting to see if new friend here might take me up on my offer of experimenting to see if we can work out a mutually beneficial business venture together. Thse workmen are driving me nuts with their low standards and unreliability.....when all I want is a bog-standard South of England style 21st century house and I havent got an original bone in my body to ask for anything "special" - I just "look and copy". I'm just not creative end of - I just look at what others have got, figure out the consensus of opinion/taste and then turn round and say "That's what I want too....".

It is what I am going to use when I am looking for a builder (if needed)

Bl***y hell money!!!! you have been through a horror story. Google part exchange new homes, maybe you could get something else because wrt a new home, energy costs are far lower. I know gardens are generally much smaller but there are other upsides, like the 10 year warranty. Also help to buy is not just for first time buyers

Me, well I looked long and hard last night but again have come back to my local area because cycling is part of my healthy way of living. I even looked further south and there are nice bungalows but when they say `secluded` and the epc is very low, then alarm bells ring. Yes new homes can be smaller with less storage but if there is room for a small conservatory, that would immediately add room and imagine all those storage/seating units which could fit all around the edge up to glass level

Breakfast was hemp soaked oats with berries, 4 macademia and yogurt
lunch will be stir fried (in water) veggies and some added protein, possibly anchovies or sardines. Teatime will be something made with sweet potatoes, maybe poached egg and sweet potato mash. I have a small portion of carrot and ginger soup so that will have to be a mid morning snack, another snack will be stewed apple and yogurt. The hm yogurt is still as good as day 1, very firm and no liquid. Very nice

There are free online tests. Can't recall name of site - but (from my pov) the one I came across one time did seem pretty good. I remember the result as being a sliding scale - one end being "absolutely not" and the other end "absolutely is" and the halfway point being "absolutely average". The test seemed pretty straightforward - I just remember trying it and got a result just to the right of the "absolutely average" (ie the right side being the "absolutely is") side (ie on a 0-100 scale, with 100 being "absolutely is" and 0 is "absolutely isnt" = I got somewhere around 55/60).

But Pastures would know about that - ie if these tests are any good etc etc.

My plans re this house boil down to "I thought I'd finished it!" and I've thrown so much time/effort/money at this particular house - and it's been hugely disruptive to my life. So I figure that now it had got to "I thought it was finished" stage - then I might as well finish it.

I'd start again if I were ever in a position to buy a house with less (unsolvable) compromises (ie the area it's in) - but that basically boils down to the "Hope I win the Lottery - or on my premium bonds" type thing as far as I can see.

Re the "Heroes" scheme - when I had that electric fire in plug socket problem a few days back I asked about that on another MSE forum and a poster told me about this scheme. I duly contacted it - and the electrician I have now has come via that scheme. Fingers crossed (as we're halfway through this) - but this one seems to have "my standards", rather than "local standards". I think I should have a pretty good idea how the electrics in a house function by the time we're through - as he's obviously a very intelligent person and he's going through the house with me explaining everything at an "intelligent 6th former" standard.
