Off to Big Town, where I was busily assured that the conversation I had had with a "professional" last time I saw them was very different to what I actually had with them:cool:. Followed by pizza and glass of wine at lunchtime then cup of coffee and chocolate brownie out.
Just got back. Had drink of milk. Shattered. Time for toast and I shall be googling for a replacement for "professional" with the convenient memory. Fed-up with all these conversations I've apparently had since moving where I've agreed with/suggested in the first place what the other person wanted me to have said - which is often very different to what I did actually say. In cynical frame of mind - and will be taking notebook with me in future to stop all this mis-remembering so many people do when I am "customer" - so the conversation was obviously as I remember it being:cool: - as I'd made up my mind in advance exactly what I wanted.
In future - I will read my instructions direct from notes to whichever-workman-etc-etc it is this time and will probably get them to sign it too:p. Am sick of their convenient memories for the way they wanted things to be - but I had specified differently.
Slammed foot down on floor very firmly with determination I am not going to have any more ***** mis-quoting of what I said......and heads for kitchen to get toast and fruit.
MTMS - ever the cynic I try where ever possible if agreeing anything to create an email or Facebook message chain or if that's not possible a text one. It's handy if there is any dispute. I tend to go along the lines of "It was good to speak with you earlier re ....., can you confirm x,y.z. It was worth it's weight in gold when my council mixed up my kids and tried to make me/him jump hopes to prove he had moved out a few years before. Suddenly it was no longer "my fault" for not telling them....... (I had applied for a single adult household reduction which they awarded and then sent me a snotty demand for payment..... not helped that when I contacted them I was told I was lucky they weren't considering prosecution for fraud........)
Anyway visitors enjoyed the shortbread and LOs have been safely dispatched with them to avoid me scoffing them. Breakfast was toast with pate and tomatoes, lunch a quick tin of soup and of course a piece of shortbread was had mid-afternoon:). Tonight I'm having one of the turkey kievs I made a few weeks ago with a few HM wedges and runner/broad beans. I had defrosted the spare portion of pea & barley rissotto I made a while ago but it's looking really claggy so that will be getting turned into soup for lunches.
I've started my salt pickled brisket experiment. most recipes on-line are for huge pieces but I think I've scaled the ingredients down ok. It wasn't too much of a faff to put together and just needs turned daily for the next 10 - 14 days. I'm hoping it turns out ok, I can't see why not but time will tell:).0 -
Good points Kittie and caron.
Re today's mis-rememberer and I've done my googling and decided on someone different to them - and they duly have a Facebook page.:) They're going to know I've specifically dumped them and what that means:rotfl:
Kittie - mea culpa I guess to assuming people will realise the fact that I've spent all my adult life being single should be interpreted by them as meaning "MITSTM must be a pretty capable sort of person then - to have managed on her own all these years". I guess they don't think that way then? Workmen will soon know there is no "we" - the second they come into my home and there isn't a "girly" thing in sight - but there's no man in sight either:rotfl:
I'm going to have to give this further thought. Single women are very rare here as far as I can see (other than in the context of being widows) - so I guess they're not used to us and they're certainly not used to career women here (not that I ever was a career woman - as I've only ever had jobs - but I guess I was, all unknowingly, getting the benefit before moving of them knowing there were a lot of careerwoman around and just assumed I was one too and I got treated a bit more "seriously"). It was common for them to make an assumption that I had a career (rather than job) etc etc - unless I said otherwise. I hadnt realised how much easier it was making my life previously to have people just assume that. It seemed to be the case that people just assumed I was either a teacher or "something to do with the university" from what I could make out.0 -

The decorator that had a different conversation with me to the one I actually took part in doesnt have email unfortunately (that shoulda been a warning sign - whoops.....).. I also find it handy as there has been a genuine misunderstanding it gives folk the chance to come back to you to clarify:)
ETA - The "we" can be quite vague and not necessarily someone who lives in.......0 -
Right. Mobile phone texts - I hear you sister. Noted:T
EDIT; and started as I mean to go on. I've just sent one to next workman confirming what I've already told him.0 -
Morning all
Just a quickie before I go out
Breakfast was porridge, remembered to put it in fridge last night, hooray
Just been poking around Trip advisor for lunch, were we ate last time was OK, but a bit too muddled & Veganised for me, just don't fancy queuing then trying to decide on some food that I have never heard of let alone tasted
So, either a cafe in the health centre which seems fine, or one near the boats. Choices are made a bit harder 'cos companion is a dairy intolerant veggie, bummer :eek:Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Another dismal grey wet morning. So pleased I`ve made my pot of beef stew as I`m going to be busy making Damson Jam with 3kg donated Damsons just a bit worried I am not going to have enough jars. I use the small mint sauce or mustard jars. Just a nice size for singles. Might have to post on our Free food site to see if anyone has some to spare.Slimming World at target0

I had toast late last night .... and toast for breakfast this morning.
I'm working my way up to maybe making a Yorkshire later ... a Toadie
But, it's one thing to dream of cooking/eating something - it's another to get off your butt and get round to it.0 -
early breakie, just spelt flakes and hemp milk. Car has gone to be `fixed` and I am twitchy, hope it is straightforward. Just had a piece of spelt toast with boiled egg and grapefruit. Later will have to use the rest of the salad stuff and beans.
I hate these twitchy moods, hard to settle to anything, maybe I`ll have to do something straightforward, like polish my kitchen worktops, cleaning sinks and so on. Ooh yes, I lost another 1kg so it is very steady and slow weight loss, as it should be. I noticed that I am now wearing tops that make me look slinky, not bumpy. All down to omnivore food but plenty of vegetables rather than fruit and not much meat and no potatoes. I think my sugar free scones help tbh, they fill me up, get rid of mouth hunger and contain good stuff, like butter, chopped nuts and some berries. Or it could be the chocolate, only a small bit of 85% but enough of a % to satisfy any choc craving for the whole day
Oh well, got to find something to do now0 -
I made hot cross buns without the cross or glaze :j so easy, a few minutes to load the bm, a few minutes to form buns at the end. Didn`t even have to grease the tray with silicone liners on it. Result 8 large puffy spicey currant buns. I used 1/2 00 flour and 1/2 strong white. Looks like a 10/10 in my little notebook, will have one later for my teatime treat. Would have cost £5 for 8 abel and cole organic buns and mine were 100% organic. Nice to keep track of what I am making, I want to make as many different things as I can in the bm. Looks as though I will be offering my panny to a dd in future
I also have shiny counter tops and sparkling sink, other than that, just been faffing0 -
I decided to have toast this morning as there is quite a lot of bread in the freezer taking up space.
I've defrosted a two portion packet of braising steak and have put that in the slow cooker with a selection of root veg to make a stew. Rather than freeze the second portion, I'll go for the CFO 'rinse and repeat' and have it tomorrow. I'll have it with mash tonight and will probably have it with a jacket potato tomorrow, so that it is slightly different.
I haven't had any lunch as I'm not hungry and tonights dinner will be very filling.0
