    We've focussed on the care fee side of this as that was the OPs question. It does remove worry for people and could help if they were one of the unlucky few.

    More often though these types of trust are used in second marriages to protect the assets. The surviving spouse has the benefit of the matrimonial home for life, but a share of it will always go back to the children. Avoids those horrid cases where the survivor changes their will and cuts out all the step children who can do nothing about it. My in-laws had this arrangement for exactly that reason.
