Whilst I agree that access to health and medicines has played a huge role in the increase in population, I do beg to differ about war.
80 million people died in ww2, 18 million in ww1 - approx. 110million victims of war in the 20th century. Throughout history estimates do vary, but are claimed to be as high as 1 billion.0 -

Some species cull their own because its population is too big, more does not mean happier/healthier or safer.

Spanish flu alone killed somwewhere between 50 and 100 million people in the space of a year or two just after WWI
I think disease wins in the 'number of people killed in the 20th century' competition.
How that relates to house buying renting and selling is less clear!0
