Samsung TV - Removing Features, Still Under Warranty

I know a £15 device can be bought, it is not the cost it is the principle. I bought a Smart TV, it is no longer smart.
I must admit I did not think people were so much of the opinion just bend over and take it. I think that if perhaps we were not so willing to let companies f**k us and just take it then we would get better products and services.
You would think members of a money saving forum would have more fight in them and not just come up with the answer of spend more money.
If you want more advice go to the correct forum and pose your question to the consumer rights enthusiasts.

I agree with OP. I am regularly surprised by how many posters here seem willing, at times almost anxious, to accept the customer unfriendly practices of some manufacturers and suppliers.
I was asking on here a while back if it was possible to get a non smart tv anymore as I did not need the add on "extras" offered - ones like the OP is now losing. (And don't even get me started on mobile phones). I got quite a lot of comments telling me I should just accept that was how tvs were now and that they came with a lot of redundant functions. It all seems to me to be a) wasteful and b) showing the manufacturers and suppliers are not interested in delivering a better all around product.
Maybe they aren't - but isn't it up to savy consumers here to push them on this? Since when did MSE avoid consumer rights in favour of simply technical advice? Now I shall sit back and wait to get told off.0 -

This is why my next TV won't be smart
Good luck with that, even small cheap TVs are getting 'smartness'. You can, of course, just ignore it.So we don't really need smart TVs then?
Some people do, some people don't!I bought a Smart TV, it is no longer smart.
But it IS still a TV, right? And some smart stuff still works, right? So how much did you pay for the TV, and how much for smart? Take off that your 4.5/5 year's use, and you've got how much of a refund you can expect. Also, providing a model number would be helpful.
BTW, I've got a Sharp 'smart' TV which has utterly awful 'smartness' - the YouTube app was terrible (not HD, and probably Flash, so may have stopped working) but it's a cheap, good, 60 inch TV.0 -

The chips and circuitry that power the smart functionality will come to a few quid, or less. Think how much a Raspberry pi costs, then take a lot off that figure.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
As my TV was the same price as another similar spec TV but came with some so called smart extras should i have rejected it .0

Well "Smart TV's" are very recent things
We're now coming to the "end of life" to the first "cutting/bleeding edge" devices in the big push for Smart TV's that started in 2010/2011.
Those TV's all have proprietary software which is a pain to keep updated and they used chips slower than the current Raspberry Pi boards (but were fast enough for the OS at the time)
But as the market settled and Amazon / Google and Apple all got into the market their technologies came into play a lot more...
LG TV's now use their own "Web OS" and other's use "Android OS". Plus others still have their own proprietary OS's but these are all more Java based OS's and are not relying on flash for media playback instead using some hardware based decoding and Java/HTML5 for playback. (something the older TV's could not manage!)
Look out for TV's using Roku's OS soon. Their are a few TV's out that use it but not hit mainstream market in Europe yet...
tl;dr version :
You're not the only one suckered with cutting/leading edge TV technology 4/5 years ago.
But that's what you get for not waiting till the market settles and maturesLaters

i think this is a case for 'smart tv lawyers 4U'
did you buy a networked tv and expect it to be updated forever?
did you have a games console or pc and therefore didn't need a networked tv?
did the government not tell you about chromecasts or firesticks?
smart tv lawyers 4U is all you need. call us today if you can't be bothered to fire off a letter yourself and we will fire off a letter for you

Exactly - it costs peanuts, but can be sold as a feature. That's why you get it whether you like it or not.
If OP can prove somehow that they specifically wanted YouTube that would be a start, but I don't think they'll get far. YouTube is a small part of the 'Smartness', which itself is a small part of the features of the TV, plus she's had use of it for 4 years, which would be deducted.0
