I live next to a alleyway which is owned by the council. It a public alleyway between our houses. My house is number 10 the alleyway and then number 12. People can walk through the alleyway to get to the other side. Recently I had a lot of people knocking on my door at night time and then running off. I have installed cctv cameras now. There also loads of people hanging around in the alleyway and recently there has been graffti on my wall.
The people who have access to the alleyway are the public will I have to pay for the graffti to be removed or is it council responsiabitly. My house is very big and my garden is around 150ft including my house around 220ft. So to clean up the graffti each time is very expensive. I don't like calling the council for this as once its gets cleaned up they will do it again.

I would think it is your "responsiabitly"0

How long have you lived there?0

I would think its up to the "council" to clean it as its a environment and criminal act.Nothing drags a place down like Graffiti and the persons responsible should be made to scrub it off with toothbrushes whilst been soaked with ice water but so many spaghetti knitters and do gooders today ................ ah well.Keep in your thoughts the poor Beasts of burden around the World and curse All who do them harm.0

Why do you think the council should foot the bill for cleaning what maybe private property?0 -

Thanks for the information, it's a huge help for my graffiti problem!
First call will be to the police to cart the miscreant away. A night in the cells should be a salutary lesson that defacing someone's property will not be tolerated.
Second call will be to the council requesting their presence first thing in the morning armed with paint and rollers.
Third call will be to the school to explain why the 6 year old won't be in school tomorrow.
At least she used her ghastly purple glitter nail polish to daub on her bedroom wall rather than pinching mine, or I would be adding theft to her list of criminal charges :rotfl:0 -

If it's your wall it's your responsibility to clean it.
Longer term if you approach your councillor and your community constable you may be able to get the council to agree to (and pass the necessary Order) putting a gate across the alley with adjacent houses holding keys.
The police often have temporary wireless cameras they could put in place for a few weeks to try and identify the perpetrators.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
If it's a council house, then it's the councils job
if you own the house why would it be anyone's responsibility other than yours or the perps if you can catch them.0 -
Thank you for the response guys. It's private property but the people who are doing the graffti are doing it from the alleyway as the alleyway is a path by our house so my wall and neighbour wall is exposed. If we did'nt have the alleyway we would'nt have graffti. I don't think they would lock the alleyway as it very popular.
The other house across the alleyway has had the side on top of the fence grafftied. That is'nt the only problem as my neighbour propertry has also been burgulared. The alleyway connets to the other side of the road and both of these houses have also been robbed. Some one knock on my door around 10pm at night and ran off. We did'nt have any lights on so I am sure that they where trying to get in.0
