Help! Any Video Freeware?

We were supposed to be going to a family wedding but because of a pretty severe family illness we can't go. We want to send a hand-knitted DVD and our pc has the capability to burn a DVD but we don't have software. Is there any idiot proof freeware that we can download ? My "very knowledgeable" 13 and 15 year-olds tell us that the stuff they have seen is "just c**p".

ANy experienced users out there know any different?

We want to make a kind of "Sorry we can't be there, have a great day.. etc etc" - the Groom to be made a similar thing for his grandparents' diamond wedding (he is in the USA) and it went down a treat.

We'd like to record a video clip and send it with another wedding guest to be played during the "telegrams" bit.

Any other suggestions would be gratefully received!

Well, the first stage is to record your video clip and transfer it onto your PC hard drive.
Then the second stage is to use some software to create a DVD from the video file.

Are you confident that you can do the first stage?

These are the steps (very high level):-

1 - If you've not got one already beg / borrow camcorder

2 - Video you family speak, try it get it right I this stage (this isn't the normal way but will be best for you)

3 - check your PC has a firewire or TV/AV in connection, if it hasn't then you'll need to find someone with a PC who has one of them

4 - Connect camcorder to PC

5 - Install Windows Media Encoder http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx

6 - Use WME to get the video onto the PC and save to the PC

7 - Install DVDFlick http://www.dvdflick.net/

8 - Use DVD Flick to burn video to DVD - try it with a rewritable dvd first and test it in your dvd player to make sure it runs ok, if it does then burn it to a dvd+-r
