  • Oh no, i am you though MW too generous at dos.
    I hate to think I'm not paying my way, so end up overcompensating grrrr.

    Did you enjoy your evening out though? I guess that's all that matters really.

    Glad its not just me! Definitely overcompensating. I suppose I would rather be too generous than too tight! And I am in a lucky position that we can afford to do so without any major financial impact.

    Yes, it was a good evening. I've given up booze due to ill health but found I needed a few drinks to cope with the social side of it. Hope the hangover will be ok tomorrow!

    Wish, am home now and just wanted to say your message really cheered me up, thank you so much for posting it.

    I had someone who started at my old work just before I left come up to me and say how much they wish they had got a chance to know me. That means a lot, and shows what people think of me. A few quid over in a bar bill is really nothing to write home about in comparison.

    I managed 2 days worth of lunch food for £2.60 in cash today, and a v late night dinner, whoopsied bread and milk for £3 in cash too. Yes I will wince a bit when I see the round come through on the statement, but I've not been spending my personal allowance so this one is fine. Onwards and upwards.

    Today was really hard. Frustratingly I forgot my travelcard so £9 spent on travel unnecessarily.

    I did get through the day and get work done, I also spent nothing on lunch or snacks although had a £3 spend on coffees for a meeting. That was paid from cash and I WILL claim for next week.

    We had our free family day out tomorrow cancelled at short notice but we can reschedule for later in the year.

    I made 10p on 0nepoll :rotfl:!

    I think I've finished the calculations for OH pension contributions, they would involve him contributing an additional £1400 a month. As we are part way through the tax year it would be £2402 a month for rest of year (taking home approx £1300 pm less). It would wipe out our ability to overpay the mortgage this year BUT means we would be gaining £16,837 in his pension for £7,363 out of our pockets. There is no way we would get this sort of return from overpaying the mortgage. His pension is pitiful and boosting it like this would definitely help us move towards financial independence and early retirement. I could throw some small trickles at the mortgage this year then next year once the monthly pension payments go to £1400 look to overpay the £500 or so a month we would start recieving again in his monthly pay. He has dropped an email to the pension team but as they are slow to respond I think it would be best to fill in the paperwork now then adjust the percentage if needed.

    Anyway its Friday evening and I'm sitting in the garden with fresh mint we've grown steeping in a cup of hot water. There are nappies on the line drying ready to be sold. The sky is blue. And I get to have an early night after cuddles and stories with the kids. I can't ask for much more than that.

  • All those calculations.... they'd make my head spin, but I'm pleased you've sorted it. It does seem like a no brainier when you can double what you pay.
    Does it make a difference to you current tax situation? (Which is where I think this idea started. )

  • Hi MW
    Massive well done to you on your mortgage reduction :beer::j
    Glad your feeling on the mend, I think life can get so hectic and fast sometimes we don't notice the toll it takes until something stops us!

    Love headspace app it's so good for s quick dose of getting into the present ....easier said than done as I often end up in mental to do (or shopping lists! 😂) in my head!

    Love a shiny new diary and may make one of my own to focus on the final push. Haven't done exact maths but I reckon we may be only a year or so behind you ! :j

    Lovely to see you tyo, need to catch up on all your news. One year behind sounds like you're doing brilliantly, at this rate you'll probably overtake us. I need to practice headspace this weekend as have not done any this week and very aware of it.

    Have had much needed lie in thanks to OH taking charge with the kids. Feel much better already.

    We have had to top up the current with £100 from savings and imagine another £100 might be needed. We spent £86 on food for the week yesterday and our cleaner and window cleaner needs paying. Not ideal but as we had a £400 car bill unexpectedly this month and paid that from current I think we have done OK. Plus our MSE thinking only started again this month so will take time to make changes.

    Another £2.50 bonus from TCB this weekend, so bought DD2 15 pairs of pants, we are potty training and she can't have enough! These are a size up too. £12 plus 2% cash back plus £2.50 bonus. They are due to have flash £5 bonus so just thinking about what we need. DD1 wanted me to buy her a half price deal on ice skating tickets, she gave me the money and I got 5% back (so 50p). We used the cash she gave us to buy a present for a party today. OH also used the bread maker for the first time in ages this morning, so well done him!

    So plans for today:
    * practice headspace
    * finish paperwork and put back on shelves
    * kids party
    * keep eye out for £5 TCB bonus
    * read some diaries
    * pay window cleaner
    * [STRIKE]see if can buy snack foods with Poundland voucher I have and cancel some from MrT shop[/STRIKE] Took off £7 worth then realised had forgotten £6 worth of shopping :rotfl: I did find out OH had added more to take it to £93 so at least I got it down to £85 :p

    Tomorrow
    * return H&M items for refund
    * arrange collection of trade in books
    * get spare room ready for exchange girl
    * tip run
    * free play with kids / park / library if raining
    * headspace
    * Reseach cheap Sweden tips for holiday
    * email re: free tickets for next weekend event
    * yoga

    Thanks pinky, that's so kind of you. It makes a real difference to know people are reading and interested in my diary. Keeping one really helped me to stay focused in the past, and again now I've come back to it, and am sure it will with you too. Have subscribed and look forward to cheering you on.
