I'm not sure this is really the right place to post this, but I thought that someone may be able to help. This is for an idea for a present for someone that is from Edinburgh. I need to know of iconic things/buildings/products/locations in Edinburgh. I can google search and get images like castles, but if there's anyone from Edinburgh that really knows things the locals know of? E.g, I'm from Cardiff and ideas for the equivalent type of things would be as listed below:
Clarks pies
Brains beer
Caroline Street chip shop
Cardiff Castle
Roath Park lighthouse
Pierhead building
Spillers record shop
Llandaff cathedral
If there's a better place to post this, please let me know. Thanks

I'm not local, just live in Scotland so not got as much specialised knowledge as you might get but. ..
I love Edinburgh Zoo and the dungeon's. They do some great ghost walks and a tour around old Edinburgh underground which I've never been on but heard it's great. The Trams are new to Edinburgh finally...think the locals are now sick of them lol. Took ages and cost far more than planned! I ate in hard rock cafe and a Vietnamese place, think I had and afternoon tea too but there are plenty around - I'm sure someone will recommend places. I'm from the west coast so we have salt and vingear on our chips but Edinburgh are all about the salt and sauce!0 -
