account switching

I am switching accounts to the Alliance and Leicester, {current acct}. Anyone done the same and can give me any info on how their switch went? Thanks .

I changed from (SH)Abbey (after 20 yrs) to A&L Premier Direct Account (thru Quidco!). I did all my d/ds, payments into account, standing orders, myself. I was lucky enough to be able to leave enough money in the Abbey (at first) to cover any credits or d/ds that didn't "work". I first off arranged for my credits (in my case, pensions) to go in to A&L and then, as each d/d or s/order had been taken from my Abbey account I changed the bank details with the appropriate company who was taking the D/d. (All were monthly d/ds) In some cases I was able to change my bank details on line for d/ds. Some I did by telephone, some I had to do by post. Both Abbey and A&L allowed me to cancel/set up Standing Orders on line. As each D/d appeared in my A&L online statement, I cancelled it (online) on my Abbey account. Almost without exception (Southern Water! and it was their fault) everything has gone smoothly. I kept a meticulous record of each stage of every D/d, pension payment. That included keeping a record of who and time and date of phone call, as well (important). In nearly all cases, I got a confirmation letter about change of bank details. I hope this is of help.

I've just done this using their switching service and it went really well They switched all of my DD for me (except for my M&S loan payment as M&S money wanted me to fill in forms for it etc...)
