How long is 'reasonable' for a car to appear on AskMID?
I recently arranged for renewal of a relative's car insurance through the broker Motor Quote Direct.
The renewal went through on the 3rd of July, with the new policy scheduled to start on the 11th.
The car was on the AskMID site up to and including the 10th, but on the morning of the 11th this was no longer the case.
It's still showing uninsured despite the policy documents being sent and the company's assurances that the vehicle is insured. However the broker didn't seem too interested in checking the database.
So the question is, what is a reasonable length of time for this information to show on the database? I have never come across this before and we're now 11 days in since the new insurance was paid for. I'm aware that the car could be stopped at any point (I have advised relative to keep documents with them at all times, and I have an electronic copy stored), and also the tax runs out at the end of next month and I believe the DVLA will refuse to issue tax if a car isn't on the insurance database.
Any help gratefully received.

Although it's 11 days since the policy waas paid for it was not eligible to go on askmid till it was in force.
Insurers do get grace to update.
You have given the right advice regarding keeping docs with the driver.
Check this again in another week and if still not updated raise it with the Broker0 -
AFAIK the DVLA do not check insurance at renewal.0

When I took out insurance recently it did not show up on AskMID so I went to online chat and was told it could take up to a week.
I think Car 54 is right. I do not think DVLA require prior insurance, for car tax, (although I seem to remember that they used to in the olden days).0 -
Now they just want their money!
I would allow a week from the 11th for it to show on AskMID0 -
Mine lapsed 30/06/17, renewed on 01/07/17 (Saturday) and it was on there Monday 03/07/17 around 16:40.0

Maybe they are just slow or maybe they got the reg number wrong?

Thanks for the replies. The car finally came up as insured on Saturday.
I get the impression from dealings with them that they are indeed a little laid back when it comes to the paperwork....0 -
Four days to update the database would be an acceptable length of time to me.0

The insurance is required for tax in NI - we can't usually tax a new car online, as you have to bring the new keeper supplement and insurance certificate to the post office to get tax.
Makes it almost impossible to be legal when you drive off the garage forecourt.0 -
Motor quote direct are just a broker, it's the insurer who updates MID.0
