Cabin baggage help

My hunch is airlines could generally go for the Iata proposed smaller size of 55 x 35 x 20cm in the not so distant future, so I'd go for this if getting a new bag.
Hard sided generally have 2 equal sized compartments.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

It would appear that i have found a bag that somewhat fits my requirements but i have had to pay more for it..
The eastpak trans4.
This doesnt fit on ryanair but this will do for the american airlines.. im pretty happy with this.
The irony is that i dont have any travel on american airlines planned at all :rotfl:0 -

I'm about to purchase one that is 50l - although granted unfortunately is just the one main compartment.0 -
I think for maximum capacity two wheels are best, with 4 wheels the case rides high up over the wheels, with two wheelers useful space in the case can go almost all the way to the ground.0

I also sympathise. I posted on 'I wanna buy it or do it' very recently with a similar problem although I'm looking for a very lightweight folding back pack 55 x 35 x 20 cm. So far the only one I could find at this size is out of stock and, with advice from another poster, I have asked the eBay seller to let me know if it comes back in stock - weighing only 0.3 kg (44 litres) at £7.99, post free, it would be ideal.
I hope you find what you need.

Ive often avoid this problem by carrying a large laundry bag type that squashed down to whatever size is needed. It doesn't look as smart though as a proper bag but it's very multi purpose not to mention cheap0

Thanks very much holllydays. I hadn't thought of that - good to keep in mind if I don't find the very lightweight backpack the right size.
Everyone seems to be saying that the airlines are tightening up having to have just their recommended dimensions or less.
