Dunelm mattress topper woes

Hi,

I wonder if any of you are able to give us some advice please.

We bought a mattress topper from Dunelm for around £150 (cheaper than buying a new mattress) as my partner was getting back problems from the bed. The topper is really comfortable and solved the back issues, BUT it's also makes sleeping hard due to it being so hot. It's a memory foam topper.

We emailed customer services, who said to talk to the store manager where we bought it. So we went to the store on Sunday and spoke to a lady who said that she would talk to the manager the following day and phone us, but surprise, surprise, we haven't had a phone call.

We understand that it's not so easy to return or get a refund with these types of items, but is there anything we can do as otherwise we've just wasted £150 and will have to buy another type of topper.

Thanks for your time.

Memory foam does get hot. Should you have researched this before you bought it?
The gel one says this on the website "With a removable, machine washable cover our memory foam topper absorbs body heat and is available in a choice of sizes."

I dont think you will get anywhere to be honest . Its not re sellable because you have slept on it.
They wont, under any circumstances take duvets back either, for the same reason.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

It sounds like you have just bought the wrong type of topper to suit your needs, there are a few types designed for cooling usually including things like gel or latex but memory foam on its own gets very warm.

Unless of course it was advertised as being a cooling one, in that case it may well be faulty.

If the former I'd doubt they will do anything as they can't resell it and can't send it back to the manufacturer, they can't let themselves be £150 down on profit for someone else's mistake.

If the latter then insist they offer a solution (repair/exchange/refund).

Thanks. Looks like an expensive lesson learnt :(

It has such good reviews and it is very comfortable, but we didn't pick up on the memory foam heat issue.

    Use a lighter cover sheet/duvet?

We bought a new mattress that has a memory foam top (but knew about the heat issue). At the moment we use a 4 TOG duvet in a cover, and when it's really warm we take out the duvet and just use the cover.

If you looked at the 1star reviews I'm sure someone will have commented on the heat issues.
