  • Not a nsd and I had to do grocery shopping after my terrible snack filled adventure at the weekend. I'm now down to £7 in the general spends categories to last me until the end of the month. Hmmm
Oh well, I'm only ynab poor really.

In better news, the pay slip for my supply money came through today, so I've set up a pending transaction on ynab for Friday when it will appear as 'real' money in the bank account. I've filled up the 1p a day challenge pot to 31 days- this completes a section on the chart I'm filling in to keep track of this. The shrapnel went into the mop pot and the rest (£80) is going in the 13 step plan. Just wages and expenses to come now , they'll be paid a week tomorrow. I should get my pay slip in the next couple of days so can set up a pending transaction for that too.

Right. Bed for me, alarm is set for 5, Work trip that will generate just under £200 in travel expenses for the end of October. (Depending on how I get on for the rest of the year, I may set up a 'new car' pot specifically for my travel expenses. After all, that's what the extra over the fuel costs is really for isn't it. But the mortgage offset is the current priority. Hmmm decisions, decisions....

All I can say is thank you for breakdown cover and thank you for 'car maintenance funds'

Currently sat in the car park of the service station waiting for recovery due to a flat battery.

    Thanks Pinky,
Breakdown tipped up reasonably quickly, jump started the car in a second and I headed off to get the battery replaced (I'm 250 miles from home, I'm not taking any risks) battery changed (£135 including fitting  )
Then I parked on the M25 for over an hour before finally arriving at my hotel. By this point I was starving. Blew the expenses budget on dinner (which included 2 glasses of wine) and fell into bed before 9. I didn't sleep brilliantly, but that's not the hotel's fault sadly (because that would be a refund due)
A visit today then the long drive home. Does anyone know how many miles of roadworks there are on the M6 from Cheshire southwards? The majority I believe!

So, monthly general spends budget now sitting at -£50 (will fix when my pay slip comes in) but supply money has been paid, so will update my totals.

  • So things continue to be dire with the finances, but looking at it all more carefully it's actually the 1p a day challenge that's sabotaging my budget. (It's not totally responsible, but is a contributing factor)
I'd already decided I wasn't going to do it again as it diverts money away from my true saving goals (even though I'm planning on using the money for that anyway) so it's just a bit pointless. However, I am a completer finisher personality type so I can not just abandon it.
I'm going to do the following when my wages & expenses come in:

    1) cover overspending incurred (approx £85)
    2) ensure next month's budget balances (£400)
    3) replenish work expenses slush fund (£50)
    4) top up mop pot to bring actual mortgage balance to £30k (£237.32)
    5) complete 1p a day challenge (£127.05)

Total: £900 :eek::eek: (that's without spending anything else this week)

    Income expected:
    Salary £591
    Overtime: £300
Expenses: £100 (maybe an issue with this as my boss has been on holiday when it should have been authorised, so it may not be paid until the end of October)
Total: £991. Ooooh it's going to be tight, but it's not a disaster.

When I have my full 1p a day challenge pot, I'll share how I'm going to split/spend it.

  • So... wages are in marginally less than I'd predicted as deductions were a bit higher than anticipated, but all is looking good so far

  • A no spend day - hooray. Few and far between currently and I do feel a little bit like I'm getting my mse mojo back. I cannot wait for Thursday when my expenses are paid and I can close down the accounts for September.

Fuel levels in the car are looking low, but I should be able to hang out until Friday.
I had to cancel work this afternoon due to a migraine, and I've also told the supply agency I'm not well, I've had to shuffle things round and really don't have time to do supply teaching, it's a pain as I'm now not available until after half term (never mind, lots of main work overtime to help with the financial plans)

So tomorrow is now a long half day of work and hopefully some time in the afternoon to do some house jobs.

    I'll be back...
