Nest / Hive subscription based?

Hi there,

I've been looking into buying a Nest or Hive thermostat so I can control my heating remotely on an app.

I'm struggling to find clear information which confirms that it's a paid-for subscription service.

Can anyone clarify if you need to pay for the ability to control the heating remotely and if so, how much it is?

Thank you.

You used to have to buy Hive outright, now they give you the option of paying on subscription.

I've got a hive and its just a one-off payment for the equipment, and thats it. Theres no ongoing subscription.

If you're an amazon prime member, its available at a stunningly good price today!

I've been so happy with mine, I really recommend it!

I also bought Hive as a one off. There is a subscription service for £5.99 per month for "support" etc but at present I can't see why i would want to pay this.

I also purchased HIVE as a one off payment several months ago from Amazon for £210, a really good deal. BG engineer came around and fitted it and it was all set up within the hour, and that is as far as my relationship with BG goes as I'm not even one of their customers.

I have no intention of 'subscribing' to any HIVE smart home plans. If BG customers who don't want to buy HIVE outright want to subscribe, then fine but I've absolutely no need to do so. I have an internet connection, I can control my heating and lighting via scheduling from the App on my phone and we do so frequently. Especially useful for switching the heating/hot water back on the day before returning from holiday. Love it being able to sit by the pool at a hotel in the Caribbean and just switch the lights on from home via the smart plugs etc.

I know some people are now going for the HIVE camera. Great idea, but again, personally, I've chosen a different way. I bought a Humax Eye, IP camera, again with an App. I can view parts of my house whenever I feel like it as long as I have an internet connection, anywhere! No subscription, recordings uploaded and stored 7 days on an external server with the option to download and keep.
