i've noticed they sponsor the sleeves on the West Ham shirts.. is the Gold of David and Ralph Gold?

Very much doubt it. It was incorporated as "Bladegold Limited" in 2005 by a formations outfit and bought off the shelf by the directors in 2015, who whatever reason preferred to acquire a company with an incorporation date of 2005 than incorporate their own. It was then renamed. Nobody called Basset or Gold has ever been publicly associated with the company until the West Ham sponsorship.

So "Gold" comes from a random word picked by a company formations outfit, and Basset was probably just a random traditionally-English name that begins with B.

I believe the word is probably far from random and like other similar bonds has been chosen deliberately to convey a sense of security like Fortress Bonds, Astute Capital and so on
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Somehow seems entirely appropriate that they might be associated with David Sullivan and David Gold.

I'd love to invest with them, just on the off-chance of being invited to one of the office parties....
