    How hard would it have been to ask on the phone, 'is there a call out charge or minimum charge?' There is always one or the other.
    Just because they were in the area doesn't entitle you to a free callout: If they drove twenty minutes each way, that's nearly an hour with the time on site added.
    If what you expected was an free estimate only, then would you have preferred them to say 'we know what the fault is, but it's going to cost you £80 to fix it'?
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • The gate repair company have acted in a reasonable way,sorry to say.
  • That is not a bad price. Lot of people charge £85-£150 for the first 1/2 hour.

    Quoting to repair is hard as most of us cover large area's so cant drive around for free all day.
