Hi,
Im about to be diagnosed with MS, I have critical illness cover but...
When I took out the policy 2003 unknown to me my Dad had just been diagnosed himself with MS a few months before. When I was asked if any of my family had a history of MS I had answered no. I didnt find out until 6 months after I had taken out the policy. Do you think I have any chance of getting a payout or is it a certain no?
thanks

that is fine, as long as it was after you filled in the application as you didn't know at the time and they usually only check your medical records not third parties"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

What do you mean about to be diagnosed with MS? Are you waiting for tests or results at the moment?Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I was diagnosed with CIS (clinically isolated syndrome) about 2 years ago and had lesions on my brain. Ive been getting relapses in the past year, been to see a neurologist who after hearing my symptoms has sent me for another MRI to confirm MS. He said he would be suprised if it showed otherwise 8-( Just trying to prepare myself for the worst.0

I had a client in the exact same situation as you around 2 years ago. They also had CIS which then developed into MS - their Critical Illness Policy paid out, no problems at all.
that's not to say yours will, and I'm not making any promises, however I would be very hopeful the insurer would look at it favorably in terms of claim approval. The claim statistics for Critical Illness policies is circa 92%, so the majority are approved - it's only the bad news one's we tent to hear about.

Thanks for the reply.
It was my Dads diagnosis that had me worried, as I wasnt told by my parents when I took the policy out that he had just been diagnosed himself a few months before. Because of this I had answered no if any family members had a history of MS. I hadnt even looked at my policy until now (14 years later) I hadnt had any medical problems before the policy was taken out.0 -
If they do query it, the difficulty will be proving whether or not you knew at the time. IF they do decline to pay out, you can appeal and go to the ombudsman.
On a side note, I used to work with a lad that had MS. His was quite mild and he played football, went out drinking and just lived a normal life 40-45 weeks a year. Every now and again he had to take time off work. I think the general rule was to not get too stressed or push himself and he was generally fine.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Yeh im pretty much normal 90% of the time, as I drive for a living I might lose my job its the only reason im stressing out a bit about my Insurance not paying out. Just need to wait and see I suppose.:(0

Berty, from what you have said you completed the application form in good faith and answered the questions correctly as far as you were concerned. I would hope that you do not have an issue - and it is quite possible, this matter will not even come to light. If you have any problems, please come back to us. Wishing you all the best for the future.0
