The bulbs are not from the bargain basement but why do you have to pay £6 pm? I use a couple of hive bulbs and don't pay them anything.

I thought you had to pay to use Hive, they certainly have a Home Plan on their site that is £6pm to turn your lights on. Didn't realise that you can buy the bulbs outwith the plan - but for me at least, having already paid out to replace all my bulbs to LED.

You can have a plan if that is your wish but no need to and it works fine without. I suspect if it continues you will end up paying more than if you just pay up when you buy.

I recently purchased a Google Home mini for my wife mainly so she can listen to music in the kitchen and ask it various questions.

Anyway, now we have it I'm considering adding in a couple of the smart bulbs that will work with it and, I think, its probably a choice of Hive or Hue.

I'm tempted by Hive as it has a greater range of other devices that I could add to the hub later if I so desired but the bulbs are more expensive than the Hue ones. I'm also rather confused by the "registration" of the Hive. I have read that you can't sell on a hub as its been registered to a user and can't be re-registered. Is that correct? If you aren't a British Gas customer do you still need to register the hub? Does the Hub come pre-registered to you or do you have to register on first use?

Does the Hue hub need to be registered?

    Cheers

Another option is the new range from Ikea.

Gets good reviews and prices are good.
Although they don't seem to do bulbs with a bayonet fitting. Yes you can buy a converter, but they may not be suitable because they make the bulb longer.

If you buy TPLink bulbs, they come with an adapter for bayonet fittings.
I have a couple and they work well, either screwed in or bayonet fitted.
