Hi guys... a little confused and worried. I've just popped over to my parents house and have seen a letter in my name, it's from Inter-Credit International LTD on behalf of Affinity Water saying they're going to take "doorstep action' against me for an outstanding amount of £373. I am totally confused, I have never lived at this property ever. My parents moved here in 2014 and I moved into my own house after selling our family home.

Any advice on what I can do to dispute this? I would hate for this to affect my credit file in any way. I plan on calling them tomorrow and sorting this out, however I need a little bit of guidance as to what to do or say...

Thank you :)

You ask them for evidence of the debt.

Is there anything on your credit files?
  • What do you mean by evidence?

And no, there is nothing on my file however.

A debt in your name. An agreement. Something that says why you owe the money.
  • No I just have a letter which says I owe them £373.

    The letter says:

We herby give you formal notice that your name is now officially registered on a Defaulted Credit Database.

To have your name deleted from this database your payment in settlement must be received at these offices within 72 hours from the date of this letter.

Failing receipt, your details will remain on the database and we shall continue to enforce this action vigorously through our Doorstep Collection Unit.

Is it silly to say I feel a little scared?

This is why you need to ask for evidence.

You contact Affinity Water and ask them !!!!!! this £373 relates to. Or words to that affect. :)

It seems that Affinity Water is an amalgam of a number of old water authorities; formerly Three Valleys, Tendring Hundred, Folkestone & Dover, Veolia Central, Veolia East and Veolia Southeast. Do any of those names ring a bell?

The fact that the letter was delivered to your parents house may not mean anything other than the fact that Affinity Water believe that Tinker Bells owes them £373, but have no idea of where you are. So they have passed the debt to Inter-Credit International (debt collectors) who have 'traced' you to your parents address.
