Natwest Creditguard or PPI

Hi can someone please help?
I claimed back in 2012 that I was unsold my Creditguard (PPI) for my Natwest Creditcard. I originally made the claim that it was sold on the telephone and this claim was rejected and I thought nothing more of it.
While moving house recently I found NatWest's initial response and after reading it they claim that I took out the Creditguard policy when I applied for the creditguard back in 1993. Looking at the application form in small writing there was a box that stated if you do NOT want creditguard then write NO in here. Which I clearly did not do!
The other major thing is though when I applied I was a student not earning a penny (no part time job) and this was clearly stated on the application form. So, I am guessing that if I had tried to claim against the Creditguard/PPI policy up until 2001 when I stopped being a student (and decided to get a job) then it would have been void as I had no job and hence Natwest should not have let me take it out in the first place and hence it was mis-sold!! Any advice?
Natwest previously sent me a certificate of insurance that states definitions of "Occupation" and states that the policy is only valid until the age of 65 (retirement age), so does that not imply that it is valid only if I was employed? When Natwest refused my last claim they did not send out the full terms and conditions of this policy.
I have called Natwest PPI team and they stated initially that if I was a student then it is likely to not have been valid, then after speaking to a manager they said if I was a student over 18 then it would have not been classed as mis-sold. They have advised me to reapply for my PPI refund with this new information and put all information down - does anyone have any advice on what I should put on the form to strengthen my case?
Thanks in advance for your help.
