loft conversion - house width

Hello,
I read on one of the advisory websites that two dimensions should be checked before proceeding with loft conversion - the height of the loft (not less than 2.5m) and its width not being less than 5.5m. As it was the only website where I came across this information, it looks a bit untrue. Can someone please confirm if house width somehow affects planning permission/building regulations/etc for loft conversion. Thank you!

the width of a house will be one side of the triangle which dictates the available headroom, but the pitch of the roof is also a determining factorThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I see, it does make sense. However, are you talking about width of length of a house? For example, whilst our loft height is about 3m, the house is only 4m wide but 8m long, so we are a bit unsure whether we can proceed with the process.0

width or length - the terminology isn't important, you need to measure the bits that make a triangle - ask a professional, any kind of professional!
the span/run and rise on this diagram are the important bitsThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
