Unvented Cynlinder Issue - Clock Timer not working?

Hi all,

Total DIY novice here and wondered if you guys could help,

I have an unvented hot water cylinder that is attached to a clock timer. I noticed yesterday that we had no hot water (its better than happening in the winter, but still annoying!).

Upon checking, it appears that the 'on' light on the clock timer no longer flicks on. The clock timer is still ticking and seems to be working OK, it still 'clicks' on but clearly is not passing electricity onto the boiler. I have an image of the setup....but cant post it yet as a new user.

So, before I go out and buy another, as a total novice am I reading this correctly? and how hard are these timers to replace? is it worth unscrewing and seeing if there is a way to fix it first?

Could you tell us the name of the cylinder and the clock/timer? Might be able to make a few sensible suggestions then. If it is a mechanical clock, it's likely that the operating mechanism has failed - especially as you can hear the clock "ticking". I suspect you can hear the synchronous motor running. Is there an override switch that you use to turn the system on outside of the set times? If so and you operate this, does the light come on?

It is a megaflo unvented cylinder, not actually sure on the make of the clock/timer but I believe it isn't part of the Megaflo setup as isn't referred to in the instructions. The system was installed prior to me moving into the flat.

Yep there is a manual switch on the side of the timer, but even flicking this won't turn on the light/power.

When you say boiler is it connected to a central heating boiler or is it connected to a immersion heater?

It is connected to an immersion heater, a Megaflo unvented cylinder.

Most mega flow have a thermal cut off which you can reset. Look for the model on the side and google the instructions, it will tell you where it is. If that has tripped the only other thing you can do is bypass the timer and see if it works then, if it does you'd of proved the timer is faulty.

Her is a link to the manual. Is yours a direct or indirect? I can find no mention of the timer control, so that must/may have been installed by the installer at the time. Check out pages 16, 17 and 29 for mention of the thermal cut-out reset on a direct version. For further help it would be really good to know the type of timer fitted. Maybe a photo?
