Parking at Stansted

1st apology if this is in the wrong section, not too sure where it should of gone.
Looking for some advice for parking at stansted airport for a couple of hours (4hr at most)
going there to drop my son off for his holiday would like to stay until he has taken off, parking prices seem rather extreme for such a short time so i am seeking any help from someone who travels alot or lives near there if they can offer any alternative close by options.
thanks

You say "you want to stay until he takes off" does that mean in/at or close to the terminal.
If its close then the village of stansted mountfitchet is a 5min drive away and has a couple of pubs and places to eat etc.
If its at or in then your is somewhat limited mid stay has a set down option which you pay a couple of quid for a couple of hours parking the other option is to pay for a whole day at long stayLive each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -
is your son travelling with hand luggage only?
If so, 2 hours in the mid stay is £1.50, even with the short bus ride go you would have more than an hour at the terminal to say good bye at the security gates.
If you would like more time at the terminal Bishops Stortford is a few minutes away by train or bus.

ok cheers for the replies.
we are travelling from canterbury by car, he has to at airport by 9:30am take off 11:30am rather than rushing and getting there bang on time i was looking to arrive at 9am ish give or take any traffic delays etc, son has girlfriend in tow plus suitcase so more than hand luggage.
ideally i'd like to hang about at the airport, however i am happy to drop them off, go park somewhere and walk back to airport.
mid stay sounds like my best option.
thanks for the info0 -
The drop off in front of the terminal now costs £3.50 for up to ten minutes. Mid stay car park with bus to terminal is free for the first hour, £1.50 for two hours, daily rate for more. Take into account possible queues to drop off checked in bags, security process, and long obstacle course to the boarding gates, there will be not much time to hang around if you arrive 9ish...Evolution, not revolution0

However, I really do not see why you need to stay at the airport, you can't stay with him until he takes off and it might be embarrassing for him to have mummy/daddy waiting there while he is with his girlfriend!0
