Credit applications

Hi folks,
Recently moved into my own house and I'm now looking for a few things on credit (not a rash decision and has all been worked out).
As I waited on my application I didn't want to rock the boat and so was paying interest on my credit card (5k). I called the provider today who basically laughed at me when I asked if they would provide me with a better interest rate. Looking to switch to TSB 28 month 0%. Does anyone know if they still use soft searches when applying? I had a soft search on my file when initially applying for my mortgage.
Also how many applications in a short time will affect your rating? I have already purchased a sofa on credit however would like a loan from my credit union for a new bathroom which is badly required in my new house.
To clarify I have purchased a sofa on credit and I'm looking to switch my credit card and apply for a credit union loan (Approx 3k).
Many thanks in advance

Are you already a TSB customer? I am and no search was recorded on any of my files. That was about 2 months ago.0
