Help!!! Undo a "diskpart clean" command...?

I have a dual-boot PC with Windows 7 and Arch Linux.

Whilst trying to wipe and reinstall Windows 7, I accidentally used the "diskpart clean" command on a disk... :eek:

Anyway, I tried to boot into Linux and it can't find any of the partitions on that drive. It had a combination of NTFS, ext4 and FAT32 partitions.

Is there an easy/reliable way to restore the "cleaned" disk partitions?

Use a live disk of your linux flavour and use gparted and grub can't do too much explanation at the mo I had a fag break sorting a totally borked disk on the wife's PC:eek:

Oh gparted may help with it's recovery option .... but you have totally wiped your mbr ...maybe later I can think clearly more about it.

if the disk is small enough, it may be possible to back up the drive. One prog was hxd, but it worked only on windows xp only and had a disk mode. Either way I would back up the beginning and end sectors of the drive, and blank partition start and end as you will probably be modifying them.

All my experience is with windows regarding this, but if I were you would look at TestDisk

I seem to remember that there "may" be a copy at sector 2048 but that takes me back years .....

I don't think the affected disk had an MBR to start with -- it's just a data drive that I'd set the PC to boot from temporarily so that Windows wouldn't overwrite the working MBR I already have on my OS drive.

Anyway, after spending ages trying to find a free fix, I ended up shelling out $39 for MiniTool Partition Wizard. It took about 5 seconds to repair the disk.

Hmph. I bet there was really easy and free way to fix it myself. :-/

Doesn't TestDisk have the capability to do this?

Yeah. As with many of the free programs I saw, it's advertised as a completely free feature! Until you install the software and it tells you that it's not available until you upgrade. :mad:

Ahhh... yes. Curse my impatience! Still, at least it was a simple fix.
