Liverpool Victoria to Goldfish problem

in Credit cards
Liverpool Victoria have just transferred my account to LV=, operated by Goldfish. Presumably they didn't like me because I paid in full each month by direct debit and they didn't make any money out of me.
I phoned Goldfish and asked what commission they charged on Euro purchases and they told me 3%. I said I took out my Liverpool Victoria card because they charged zero commission on Euro purchases, and told them to cancel the card. They said they couldn't because I had an outstanding balance and I must pay that first. They said that any direct debit I used to have with Liverpool Victoria was now cancelled as I now owed Goldfish the money. If I didn't pay anything I would be charged £12 for being a naughty boy.
Liverpool Victoria confirmed that my direct debit due on Oct 15th would not happen. They also confirmed that they had many complaints about Goldfish.
I paid Goldfish with a debit card and then the agreed to cancel the card.
In summary, I was transferred unwillingly, I had to phone Goldfish to find out about the 3% rip-off, Goldfish blurb said existing direct debit agreements would be honoured or a new mandate would be sent to me and it wasn't, and to cap it all Goldfish were going to hit me with a £12 penalty if I had taken them at their face value and done nothing.
I don't know how such robbing swine stay in business.

It's not you, Liverpool Victoria sold its credit card business to Morgan STanley over a year ago:

They'd previously aquired Goldfish:

and have since all been spun off from morgan STanley as part of Discover FInancial Services.0
