    ..my father still got attendance allowance when he was in LA funded care (dementia). They used his state pension, (he did not have any private pension), attendance allowance, and I think there was another extra "nursing" allowance payable as well. He had no savings and my mother lived in the house so this was discounted. Dad was then allowed to keep £20 odd pounds per week for "expenses". I think the total came to about £550, so the balance was then funded by social care...

    AA does continue but is no longer paid to the person directly. If you have never claimed it as in the case of the OPs father (and my mother) I beleive you can no longer do so, and there would be little point as far as the person in care is concerned. I don't know however if the LA have a method of claiming this for people in their care.
