Sealing vinyl floors?

I've just had vinyl in the kitchen and bathroom laid. The fitter said to use some mastiq around the edging to seal it to make sure it's water tight.

Would clear Silicoln sealant be the right product to use. Around the edges ? As what is mastiq lol?

It's a waterproofing adhesive stuff, like putty.you squeeze a long worm of it around the edges of whatever your sealing, run your thumb or finger over that to flatten it a bit. Like sealing a bath to tiled walls.

should have been done as part of the fit - standard practice.

If you do have to DIY, then use Dow Corning 785 clear. Soapy water to lubricate finger to smooth the joint.

I would expect the fitter to do the sealing for you, it's part of the job, but if you are doing it yourself then use silicone BUT DON'T use a soapy finger to smooth it off - spend a couple of quid and buy a silicone finishing tool, they make it much easier to do and give a much, much better finish.

Thanks everyone. They stuck my vinyl floor down with adhesive, but said I needed to make it water tight with the edging seal. I'll get this sorted. Many thanks great advice
