I have a ZyXEL router and I also have an acer aspire 5735.
I am using an asus x555dg running windows 10 MAINLY though.

Have you tried an ethernet cable? For wifi, this model probably has a switch; could be on top (above keyboard); front side or even left side...
e.g. its the RIGHT hand switch here. Also note the logo which is another clue as to what is the wifi switch.
