Faulty carpet - replacement or refund - what are my rights?

We moved into a new house last year and had new foooring throughout
We had one type of carpet in the front room (expensive wool!) and another everywhere else. However, the cheaper carpet was faulty - it has a mis-thread in it where the pile is the wrong side of the backing at random points and it looks like it's full of cigarette burns. The trailer came out to check after a week and confirmed the fault and said we could have a refund or replacement. However, we couldnt find anything we could afford so they said they'd honour this deal for the first year of the warranty
Here is now also an issue with the front room carpet - it has developed an awful smell. We noticed it after a few months but we'd had new heating, rewire, new kitchen and bathroom fitted and the smell is almost like ammonia, so we thought it may be some disturbed pipework smelling and had everything else checked never thinking it was the carpet. It was only when we had the hot weather started at Easter we realised the smell is so much worse when the sun is shining on the carpet.
The shop were informed, they checked and agreed and. Ow the manufacturer has sent an independent inspector who also ageees. But they are only offering us a credit note for the same manufacturer to the value of the carpet. We don't want any of their others as we don't like them and the smell has also gotten into the underlay which will need replacing
What are our rights here? It's acknowledged as a manufacturing issue and there's no falsification way we could have reported it within 6 months as it's an issue that has taken time to appear. Are we entitled to a refund? Should they also be responsible for the underlay that is ruined? What about the fitti gncosts? We've already paid once should that be reimbursed?
Many thanks in advance
