There is a long list of various problems, symptoms and solutions here:

dont just switch it off and on again coz that can cause problems. the exact way to do it is to take the card out first then turn it off and then unplug it. leave it to cool. the time needed can be anything from a few minutes to half an hour. you then plug it back in a wait for a short while coz it goes on and off while plugged in and then searchs for listings. you then need to put your card in when prompted, make sure it is on a subscription channel rather than bbc1, itv etc otherwise it wont prompt you to put your card in. after you put your card in it then searchs for channels yet again. after that it should be fine. if it isnt then there may well be something more serious wrong with it.0

FULL SYSTEM RESET PROCEDURE
1. Press services on your Sky remote, highlight option four using the arrow keys and press Select.
2. Press numbers 0, 1, followed by select to access the Installer Menu. Highlight Option eight and press select to access the Full System Reset procedure.
3. A warning will advise you that you are about to delete everything on your Sky+ planner. Press select to continue.
4. The onscreen message Housekeeping Please Wait should appear.
5. After approximately two minutes the Housekeeping Please Wait message should disappear. Your Sky+ box will carry out the procedure and switch itself off and back on.
6. Leave your Sky+ box on standby for one minute and then test the recording facility to confirm that this has solved your problem.
If you are still experiencing technical problems after following these instructions, or if the on screen message "No Satellite Signal" has been seen at any point previously, please contact us::doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
the no satelite signal recieved message does not automatically mean your system is kerput. it is another thing that happens when it over heats. the turning on and off procedure should deal with this. if it doesnt then there maybe something else wrong.
ps it can happen alot when there is bad weather in the atmosphere.0 -
Mine froze and what ever i tried it would not work - phoned Sky and as everyone points out its £65.00 BUT, if the engineer can't fix you get a new box. Engineer cam to mine today and didn't even bother looking at old box just fitted new one. I know means spending cash but for all the hassle of trying to stick a new drive in why not get a new box thats guaranteed0
