Contents Insurance - renting out a room in my flat

Hi,

I've just bought a flat and will be renting out the 2nd room to cover the mortgage!

I need contents insurance for me - and to keep the cost down would like to put the tenaants name on it when they arrive.

I've got a quote direct from Lloyds for £150 and they said I can add a tenant onto the policy. A friend has told me though that that is wrong, and Lloyds don't let you do that, she had asked. The cover sounded good, it was comprehensive.

I would ideally like to take a policy out online through quidco. Interestingly the Lloyds link through quidco shows that the insurance is through Legal and General??!! Is the cover different?

Anyone know if Lloyds will let me add my tenant, or of other good companies that will cover tenants??

I don't think I can just put it in my name - assume it will invalidate any claim I would make.

The definitive answer as to whether Lloyd's (I guess TSB) will add your tenant as a co-policyholder must come from them. I wouldn't take any chances, afterall you don't want to pay out money, for what might result in no cover due to non-disclosure. As for finding another good Insurer, the answer to that is 'Yes', for non-standard risks try an Insurance Broker.
