If a home phone is stated to make and receive sms text messages, does it mean that I can text a mobile from it?
I'm tied in knots trying to decide which cordless phone to buy and would also like to know if when you by a twin phone(base and extra handset) does the extra handset need access to a plug or does it run on battery? Thanks.

The extra handset will have a mains connected caddy to keep it charged.0

If your home phone (ie almost certainly a cordless DECT handset) can handle SMS Text messages then it can both send and receive SMS messages to/from any number in the world but only with two things:- The provider of your landline has to offer an SMS service - which for instance BT do - and if you are on BT Together 2 you get to send up to 100 free SMS per month!
- You need to configure the handset to use that SMS service.
If you do plan to make some use of a landline SMS service you may want to check the SMS Interface for the (DECT) landline phone and see if it is similar/identical to your mobile phone as personally I get VERY confused having one interface on my Siemens DECT handset and a completely different one on my Motorola mobile handset.0 -
It seems it could be far more complex than I thought it would. I am with bt so I'l do a bit of research before my new phone arrives. I've a feeling I'll be sending the new phone back within a week!0
