More of a DON'T Shop...
I've just politely sat through 15 minutes of spiel on the phone from a Virgin Wine rep colourfully describing the characteristics of each and every wine in their exclusive "telephone offer only" case which they're trying to use to entice previous customers back. I had to bluntly ask how much it was in the end as he didn't seem in a hurry to divulge the information...

£110!!!!
Needless to say I politely told him what I thought of his 'enticing offer' and to get back to me when he had any bottles for sale at £2.99.

If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...

Indeed - since the three bottles of wine for £5 loophole they have steadily been pushing their prices up.
Not only that but most of the pre-mixed cases don't allow voucher usage...0 -
I will move this over to the vent board as i think its better placed there.
by the way £110 :eek:0 -
Is the price of some bottles

I've had quite a few cases off Vigin Wine and found the quality to be very ordinary to say the least.
I've found the quality at Laithwaites and Majestic to be generally better and with a far wider choice.
Have now gone back to Tescos for my wine and have found it better then all the above and with the added bonus of no shipping charge.0 -
Have to agree that the quality of the Virgin wines left something to be desired. Was very unimpressed. Haven't tried majestic before so will give that a go. Laithwaites quality is good but have found it expensive.0

Virgin Wines always offer speacial discounts and vouchers etc, but judging by the quality of the wine you only end up buying it at the real price anyway.
I keep on getting phone calls from their "wine advisers". Although I keep on telling them the same thing...they don't seem to be getting the message.0 -
follow the guidelines below with virginwines and you should see some success!
1) Only purchase wines with four stars ratings (or above) and at least 50 reviews. Anything with fewer stars is most likely to be poor wine.
2) only buy a case at a time and use vouchers. Plenty of £25 ones around
3) Use a different account for each new purchase and also a different debit/credit card.
4) look out for special offers, e.g. millers grove merlot currently at 4.49, so for a case of 12 with a £25 voucher and 5 delivery this works out at 33.87 or 2.82 per bottle.
Ok this stuff is no Rosemount but at the price its superb value and very drinkable, i know i am drinking it now!
Ive never had any problems with 4* or above wines. Last Christmas i started a thread on a special Christmas offer virgin wines were offering, it included 3 bottles of wine at £1 each as part of the case. These 3 bottles were terrible and thrown away whilst the other 9 were superb and on special offer too. the poor wine had three stars (three stars to many!), all the others were highly rated0 -

Is there seriously any other way or reason to buy from Virgin Wines?
If you don't get 4 star it really is plonk and the 4 star aint that great. There's always loads of vouchers around and the only way to repeatedly use them is by creating new accounts.
In my view their wine is over inflated plonk and not as good (in quality and in value) as the offers down the local supermarket and to make matters worst you have to pay to have the stuff delivered.0 -
I have to admit to hating wine ... I have tried various colours and types ranging from cheap plonk at about £2 to some very exotic ones at over £60 a bottle but thay all had one thing in common ... I can get the same pleasure from a bottle of Sarsons.... obviously my pallette must be very discerning.
On the other hand one of my brothers is really into his wines and has attended various tasting and education types of courses on them. However his attitude is very much that each person is different and just because he likes a wine does not mean that someone/anyone else will. He therefore has problems answering anyone who asks him what wine he would recommend ... he used to try to help people out but then found someone complaining that 'nobody liked the wine' he had recommended so 'no sense in asking him again'.
I have one set of friends who love Moet and Chandon Champagne and would regulalrly buy a bottle ... I have another set of friends who think Moet and Chandon is only fit for soaking your feet in.
Each to their own ... if you prefer a bottle at £3 it does not make you a worse person than someone who prefers a bottle at £12 ... however you are all a much lower species to someone who prefers a bottle of Budweiser.
IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
