Solicitors letter regards a parking ticket

Good morning all.
I received a parking charges letter from Total parking solutions stating I'd parked for too long at Exeter Bridges Exeter. I wrote to them telling them there were no signs regards length of stay and In their letter my car registration plate was not visible...in another forum the people on here suggested all correspondences from this group should be ignored.....so I ignored further letters. I recently received a letter from their solicitors....asking to pay £150!!! I Will try to upload this.... Do I now have to pay this please? Any suggestions for my next actions will be greatly received. Thanks.

The advice to ignore is wrong, and hasn't been given here since the law changed in 2012.

No of course you shouldn't pay a scammer.

You can post redacted images by uploading them to a web hosting site such as tinypic or photobucket, then post the URL here, but change http to hxxp. Someone here will convert it to a live link.

Are you sure the letter is from a solicitor and not a debt collector using a solicitor's letter head? What is the name of the alleged solicitor please.

Did you reveal the driver's identity when you initially appealed? I hope not otherwise you have thrown away a valuable appeal point.

Have you read the Sticky thread for NEWBIES yet that everyone is asked to read before posting?

Ignore is fine as long as you get pics of the signs you say had no limit.

The only thing you mustn't ignore are Letters before Claim or a court document.

Edit: I'm in the minority with the "ignore" view but that's because ignorers are better off at court than those that blurt out their life story and a string of assumed mitigating circumstances at the appeal stages.

I agree that ignoring is OK if you know what you are doing, and are confident you can win a court case, but most people want this to just go away, and there is a tried and tested method of doing this.
Telling the world that you parked is not a good idea though.

Ignoring and then moving house without telling the scammers is a bad idea as well.

Many thanks for your replies. The solicitors are called Wright Hassall....

Do a forum search on 'Wright Hassall' where you will learn that they are basically pimping out their letterheads to a debt collector. You will also learn that WH have never fronted a court case on behalf of a private parking company chasing a parking charge.

Does their letter talk about 'their client, ZZPS'? Does the letter request that any payment is made to ZZPS, not TPS?

  • Please photo box the WH letter. Depending on the form and content of that letter, there may be an interim angle of response.
  • Hi. Many thanks. Yes the letter says we have been instructed by ZZPS Limited who are acting on behalf of Total Parking Solutions Ltd in connection with the recovery of the debt......

Debt collector letter, ignore it. But please do link up a copy of it for Johnersh to view it - he is a lawyer, so may have a supplementary strategy on this.

  • DaveC_79 has a similar thread that may be applicable. Take a look.
  • Adapt and send Jonersh's letter on the other thread. We need to bombard WH's senior partner with complaints. It would be better to play around with it so it doesn't look like a template - but if you are not confident doing that, send it as it is after making any changes to suit the facts of your particular case.
