    I have a TV, but I don't have a licence.
I also have a satellite dish and a dvd player.

Now, because the tv is only connected to the dvd player, and occassionally the PC for video use, I don't need a licence for that.

I listen to satellite radio also, which is only connected to my stereo. I don't need a licence for that either.

If i were to let a TV licencing guy into my home what do you think would happen. Its my belief they would lie (as they are on a bonus scheme AFAIK and lying = bonus).

As soon as the letters start to arrive I'll send a cease and desist letter, I'll also revoke assumed right of access to them. The whole system is based on threats and harassment. This is a private organisation out to harass as many innocent people as possible.
  • Hi i haven't got a tv either and the tv licence guy called round last week, he was very nice and just popped his head round my lounge door and said that i wouldn't hear from them for another two years. He didn't say anything about my pc. I would let them in cause if you don't they'll only come back with a police officer and warrant and it's really not worth the hassle.

    xx

They can't just ask a judge for a warrant because you don't let them into your house. They need some evidence first (whether they make this up or not is another matter altogether.
  • if you have nothing to hide then why refuse to let them in, i would just show them that there's no telly and that'll be the end of it.

Ok, in my case where I don't need a licence, but have a telly, what would you do?

You'd wait for them to produce a police officer so its the police officers word against the tv licence peoples word, not just my word against tv licence peoples. Police would say TV wasn't connected to anything, so no licence was required. I would win.

If you let tv licence people in, they'd see your tv (their bonus) and make assumptions, or even lie, or in some cases assault you (all of which have happened in the past and tv license people have been prosecuted for).

Always protect yourself as much as possible.

It is time this was either scrapped completely, or funded from tax, to stop this bureaucratic bullying nonsense.

I'd trim it down to bbc1 and 2, radios 1 through 4, payable through general taxation, and make the rest part of bbc commercial. (sorry 5live)

Mind you looking at whats available on the other available channels, it still looks bad value for money to me.

but I was answering the OPs question and he said he doesn't have a tv, so whats the problem?

don't know what i'd do in your case cos i can't imagine having a telly but not using it to watch tv progs on (I assume you just use it for DVDs/games?)

    My apologies.

My tv was usually just on for background noise when I had a licence. You can fill that noise at times by putting on a dvd. The fact that most tvs take prominance in the living room, and seem to stare a rather blank face at you can be strange though.
