Tablet storage query

Options
I have a samsung Tab A with 16gb of internal storage. I have all my pictures and music on a sd card but my internal storage is showing as only 3gb free.
I have 3.9gb of apps and very little else. Im sure the OS (android 7 recently updated) cannot be using 9gb so am at a loss as to what is taking up this amount.

Can anyone who may have knowledge please advise? I do not know what the storage situation was prior to the android 7 upgrade recently applied unfortunately.

Many thanks.

You can check what storage is used, its under device maintenance if the Tab A is like the Samsung Tab S2.

later builds of android are seeming to take up shedloads of space, especially if as in your case it's been updated - it's almost like the new version is installed alongside rather than over the top of the old version and this also contributes to using more storage....whatever the reason it's a bit carp :(

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

    hi
    thanks for reply.
i have used device maintenance and it shows:

    documents 1.45mb
    images 1.02mb
    audio 4.57mb
    videos 0b
    applications 3.9gb

at the top of the page system/user data is showing as 13gb which would mean that the OS is using over 9gb. that can't be right can it?
i'm sure before the latest OS upgrade that it wasn't as high as this but i can't be sure.

    hi gunjack
that really sounds like what might be the case. i have now moved around 1gb of apps to the sd card but each time the apps update you have to do it again (bit of a pain) but it still means i have only 4gb of space on the internal storage and when going away on holiday
downloading programmes from iPlayer (where you can only store it internally), it doesn't leave a lot of space for this.

What if you try a Wipe Data Cache*? Will that release some space?

    * Google it. It's done via the Recovery Menu, which is often accessed by turning off the device, then pressing and holding the Volume Down and Power buttons until the Android guy appears, then pressing Power and Volume Up. Google should have the precise details for doing this on your Tab A.
