Vets do not have the buying power that online companies have. The same as the corner shop does not have the buying power of the supermarket therefore their prices are higher than the supermarket,

Vets are restricted as to who they can get their supplies from. They may be paying more for their products than you are paying online but they do not have a choice as to where they can urchse.

Medicines have a sell by date so they have to order according to how much they use, which will be a lesser amount than a online supplier sells.
My husband had a specialist retail shop. He would have had to pay more to the manufacturer of one product than a rival, much bigger shop was selling it because he would be buying on a smaller scale.

Of course, you will be complaining when your vet stops making a profit because people buy elsewhere and he closes down.

When I needed regular metacam for my old dog before we lost her my vet charged £12 for a one off prescription or £19 for a repeat lasting no more than six months. They were supposed to also see her every six months before continuing to prescribe metacam and that should carry a consultation fee but they were always really good and only charged the prescription fee and gave a free (albeit quite quick) consultation.

Is there any particular reason you feel the need to keep your dog dosed up on flea and worm medications? My dogs have never had fleas (I do check regularly) and I get a worm count done once a year which so far has always come back completely clear so if I were to use preventatives I would be dosing my dog up on needless medications which cost a fair amount for no good reason. I'd rather treat something if they ever get it that keep them permanently dosed up.
