Good question - given it's not a conviction and nothing to do with DVLA then who's shared the information with them ?

Is it a condition of attending that your details can be shared ?

The chances are that the OP declared in to a price comparison site when obtaining alternatives quotes.

Or maybe the OP has social media accounts in his own name and broadcast about attending the course online

Would this be admissible evidence ? My social media page claims I'm a 6ft Swedish Blonde when I'm far from it

I've just hopped on to Admiral's website for a quote a they do specifically ask about attending driver awareness courses. Sorry OP, but it looks like paying the extra cost is your best option here.

Social media is admissible in criminal cases so I see no reason why it wouldn't be admissible in civil ones. Either way, it would be up to the poster to defend the post, easier for you since you're (presumably) not a 6ft Swedish blonde, less easy for OP as they actually did attend the course.

Another option is the OP upset someone they know who then decided to tattle on them. AFAIK, driver awareness data is not directly shared with insurance companies so I can't see how else they would have found out.
    A witty saying proves nothing

OP, be lucky they didn't cancel your insurance, that would be a bigger pain. Next time don't lie and answer insurance questions truthfully
