Packaged bank account help

Recently put in a complaint about a packaged bank account that I had for almost 9 years, this account was downgraded in June 2013 and Natwest have written back to me to say that it is outside the 3 years so they are not doing anything. My question is I originally opened a claim with them in June 2016 just before the 3 years were up, I remember receiving a letter from them stating they were closing this claim but do I have a leg to stand on here as I originally tried to complain before the 3 years? I wasn't aware I could actually complain about the mis-selling and only recently was I made aware that I was mis-sold after reading articles on this website.

Thank you in advance for any help.

What were you claiming for in June 2016 if it wasn't potential mis-selling?

What would be your grounds for claiming mis-selling now?

It was the same thing but then I left it too long to respond to the original letter and then life got in the way. My grounds are that as soon as I turned 18 I applied for an overdraft and was told I needed this account, I tried a couple of times to downgrade and was told that it would affect my overdraft facility if I did this so carried on with the account, the benefits were never fully explained to me and I have never used any of the benefits of the account.

If you failed to see through the original complaint and they closed it accordingly then it sounds like they're correct to treat this as a new complaint rather than a continuation of the previous one, and so, on that basis, they're justified in rejecting it on time-barring grounds.
