Would it be better to look at countries where Christmas is not such a big deal for the locals, for instance Morocco? Or are their airports and hotels just as full as they are at places where Christmas is celebrated?

I hadn't thought of Morocco and I would like to try Marrakech or Agadir. Is it safe for solo female travellers?

can highly recommend the gambia for that time of the year. Very reasonably priced, not too far away and christmas is very understated

I was going to suggest a couple of weeks on some islands in Thailand over Christmas, but that went right out of the window. :)

Flights came to just over £400 from Manchester to Koh Samui return, but with rather long stopovers in Geneva. More suitable for people flying from London.

Really? She'll be prey for men swearing their undying love, as long as she keeps sending the money.

Gambia is not a recommendation, it's something to rule out.

Actually I have no idea. Just saw the programs about women of a certain age going there.
