Thanks for the replies.I suppose i should of looked through the small print.I just expected that i would not incur any fees for using my own bank.I expect all ATM are the same or worse then.Never heard of the zero credit card ill look into it.When withdrawing i get the option for GB pound or Euro I just pressumed as the currency here is the Euro i had to use that option So i choose GB Pound then to clarify? But ill still incur the 2.5 percent markup ,i think thats what it said.
Thank you
Hi,
If you are withdrawing from a Santander ATM there's no charge but if you withdraw from another provider (CaixaBank, Telebanco etc) they may charge a mark up fee.
To avoid conversion fees you should withdraw in Euros (the local currency). If you choose sterling, it means that the bank will handle the conversion and may charge you a conversion fee and/or a foreign usage fee.0 -
It is a visa debit card with Santander The deposits are over 500 and i am using Santander ATM .Always withdraw in Euro at ATM and pay any purchases with visa in Euro when offered option at store on card reader. Thanks for clearing that up.Ill check bank statement in morning to check my transactions again0

Santander are quite clear about this, go to http://www.santander.co.uk/uk/current-accounts/current-account-faqs and then from the 'Travelling or living abroad' tab, pick the option for 'What are the fees and charges when using my debit card outside the UK?', where it states:All main adult bank current accounts (those which are credited with at least £500 per month) can benefit from free cash machine withdrawals in Spain at a Santander branded cash machine
Re your comment about "getting lower exchange rates than i get in The UK", it's clear from their published info that "The exchange rates reflect the rate applicable when the payment scheme (Visa) processed the transaction and not the date on which the transaction took place" and "Visa exchange rates available at: www.visaeurope.com/making-payments/exchange-rates". What makes you think that the exchange rate itself (as opposed to any non-sterling fees and charges) was wrong?0
