Question for female cat staff, here, what reaction do you get from your cat, when it is in a safe place e.g. indoors - when a neighbourhood tom cat comes and looks in!?
My previous cat (a female), if it saw another cat in its territory, would want to be let out and chase it away. OTOH my current cat - a mature calico is the opposite, got woken up last night at about midnight by the sound of her going - "OW-WOW-WOW-OW-WOW-WOW-OW-WOW-WOW ..... ' got up and quickly opened the window sprayed the 'Tom' who ran off, with my cat seeking a bit more privacy on the landing carpet!

Love your ow wow wow
Breadcat is a wussy puss. I do not think she likes any other cats male or female. Her reaction if she meets them outside is to run. She spends ages looking through the cat flap to check nothing is there before going out. If she sees them through the window, she will watch closely then probably come further inside the house.
More interesting reaction is to birds. She is scared of birds even at quite a distance or through a window and makes a particular neyah neyah neyah noise chattering her lower jaw up and down. Previous next door's cat used to make the same noise and jaw thing on seeing birds, and other cat owners have told me theirs do too.
Weird- I wonder what it means in cat- I need a dictionary.
I absentmindedly left a drawer in the middle of a chest of drawers open last night and she is sleeping in it as we speak. Wish I could post pictures!0 -
Our rather overweight lazy pampered princess will tolerate two of the neighbourhood neutered males in her garden and even in her house. However, she gives them a good smack if they dare to get too close (or she's in a bad mood due to food not being delivered at precisely the moment she demands it). She is black and white, as are the other two.
On the other hand, the neighbour's cat (a rather boisterous black male - the kitty version of an unruly teenager) gets the hissing treatment and ears flat to her head ... unless she's inside where she can torment him from the inside of the french doors. 'Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah ... I'm inside and you're not'. If he sneaks in when she's outside and they meet at HER door she patiently waits for him to make a run for it and makes sure she gives him a good swipe on his way past (looking extremely pleased with herself). Then it's back to bed to recharge for a few hours after all the exertion!Norn Iron Club Member 3300 -

I've read that when cats do this 'chattering' thing they are practicising their bite. However our cat does it and she's far too lazy to chase anything!Norn Iron Club Member 3300 -
My little tabby is quite adept at going out there and belting any Toms in her territory into submission!0
